"Hip replacement in the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre"

About: John Radcliffe Hospital

Anything else?

I recently successfully attended the Hip and Knee Ward Discharge Clinic and I write to thank all stafffor the exemplary care that I have enjoyed over the last 30 months or so. Before surgery, I had two steroid injections and accompanying physiotherapy and hydrotherapy and after surgery I spent five days in Bay 10 in Ward E. At each point, from reception, through initial assessment by physiotherapists and treatment by the medical team, within every specialism and department, I was treated efficiently and effectively with great professionalism but also with respect, great consideration and understanding. Questions were answered, information supplied and helpful suggestions made. I never felt intimidated, lost, a nuisance or just another patient. On Ward E, Bay10, I watched staff and listened to the experiences of fellow patients. We received care of the highest quality. Although staff were clearly working hard, nothing was too much trouble. People worked as a team, covering each other as necessary, helping out when needed. Every member of staff was committed to doing their job contentiously: cleaners; nurses; allied professionals and, while I saw little if anything of administrators and managers, they too must have been working effectively to create the healing environment in which aiding the patient to get better was everybody’s goal. I asked staff what it was like to work at NOC and they said that it was like working in a family. What higher praise can there be for a hospital as an employer? I am not naïve enough to believe that nothing ever goes wrong in the NOC or that staff never encounter difficulties and frustrations in their work. What I can say is that staff never in my presence let such concerns get in the way of caring for patients with skill, patience and compassion. I am still on the road to recovery, pursuing my exercises and with at least another session with a physiotherapist to come. I am immensely grateful for all the time, money and expertise that has been invested in my treatment and to have met so many professionals committed to using their great skill to help improve people’s lives.
