"still in pain - ridicuous"

About: Lister Hospital

Anything else?

i was admitted last sunday night with severe abdominal and back pains, A&E dealt with the matter quickly and soon got me onto the ward 7a .. I had doctors come to review me every day for 4 days in which I felt like I couldn't say how I felt and when I was trying to tell them how much pain I was in they were dismissing it. They said they did all tests and a ultrasound scan which found nothing so therefore could not explain what was causing my pain which I accepted however the doctors words were 'its just one of those things' and sent me home on thursday. I was still in so much pain so had to go back to A&E on Friday where I was readmitted back onto ward 7a. Another doctor came round and said he would like to do an xray to see if I had a blockage and if that didn't work then he would preform a small operation to see what exactly was going on. I went for my xray and it showed a slight blockage so they did an enema on the understanding that if it didnt ease the pain then I would have the op. I heard the nurses in the corridor talking about the enema and was laughing which made me feel absolutely awful they should have done this somewhere more private where I couldn't hear or see them. I had the enema although I knew this wasn't the cause of my pain. the next day the nurse was adamant that it was constipation that was causing my pain in my stomach, around my right side and my back even though I have never suffered with my bowels. So when the doctor came round he insisted that I change my diet and stop eating junk food which I found quite insulting as no one asked me what my diet was like so therefore doesn't know what I eat. I hardly eat junk food! however he sent me home yesterday although I told him I was still in a lot of pain. if it was constipation I would be out of pain by now but im not I still have the exact same pain. I am very disappointed with how I was treated, they should have done more and found exactly what was causing my pain and investigated but instead im sitting at home suffering!! no one likes to be in hospital and for me that was my first time being admitted at 21. I have mixed views on the staff some were absolutely lovely, very helpful and tried their best to make me feel comfortable as possible whereas some other members of staff were completely rude and made me feel really uncomfortable and on edge. one of the staff upset a few of the patients on that ward and even made one of them cry which was awful! I couldn't fault the cleanliness of the ward the cleaning staff were brilliant and covered all areas and were kind and talkative which was nice.
