"Worst hospital I have ever been to."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

I am absolutely disgusted with this hospital. My relative has been in and out of hospital due to an ongoing issue that is yet to be diagnosed. The waiting times are terrible - up to 10 hours before seeing a Dr from arriving at A&E is utterly disgraceful. Our relative was not added to the 'new system' on her most recent visit which meant that she was 'forgotten about' for several hours. There has been one nurse who made the effort to check that our relative was okay, and couldn't apologise enough for being forgotten. There have been 2 nurses and 2 Drs who have been very rude and very unhelpful, which made us feel very uncomfortable. The staff were also very noisy which made it hard for our relative to sleep. One Dr has told our relative that they have to 'deal with the pain'. This is utterly rude. My relative cannot eat or drink properly, so for her to be told to deal with the pain and her ongoing problem is not providing the highest level of care possible. Some of the hospital ceiling had cables showing and holes in them, walls had peeling paint and various hospital items including beds left in the middle of corridors. I suggest a review is needed of this hospital. It is certainly not putting the patient first or giving the highest level of care they claim to be doing. I hope I never have to go to this hospital again. Thank goodness I live in the Southwest where our healthcare services are much better.

Dear Reviewer Thank you for sharing your comments. I am sorry to that an administrative problem led to such a long wait for your relative. This is completely unacceptable. The manner of some of the staff members you spoke to is also unacceptable and does not reflect our hospital's values. Every visitor should be treated with respect and I'm very sorry that if this wasn't the case. The appearance of the interior of A&E is something we are very aware of and something we are currently working to improve. Thank you once again for sharing your concerns. Yours sincerely Pro Mukherjee Emergency Department Leicester's Hospitals
