"Respect and dignity seem to be embedded with all..."

About: King's Mill Hospital

Anything else?

What a breath of fresh air to finally find a hospital where the elderly are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. I attended the neurology department for the first time with my father having chosen them over Chesterfield because of the shorter waiting time for the appointment, despite all my father's other treatment being at Chesterfield. We had to wait approximately 20 minutes after our appointment time, before being personally met by my father's consultant, who shook his hand and introduced himself to my father before guiding us to his room. Within a short time it was clear that our wait was due to the care patients are given, and so totally acceptable You aren't called in, pushed, pulled and poked in a hurry and dispatched quickly here. Time is taken to take detailed history and then a full and careful examination is carried out with respect for the patient at all times. Here, time is taken to listen to the patient, which can only lead to better diagnosis and, in my experience, seems to be sadly lacking in the majority of my encounters with NHS staff caring for the elderly. The time they take at the beginning can save time and money later. My father was happy with the information he was given and felt listened to and respected. As a consequence this has helped him to understand and handle his problems with more confidence. The staff here are examples of how the rest of the NHS should perform. They should be very proud of the service they give and the way they make their patients feel. Our next visit for MRI scan and blood test and follow up visit for the results were equally as good and in addition full copies of correspondence between the specialist and the GP are sent to the patient, keeping them fully informed. This has never happened in all our years dealing with Chesterfield Royal. They talk a good game, but don't deliver. They need to go to Kings Mill for training. Well done! It's easy to get up the energy to write on these sorts of sites when you are angry. I wanted to make sure that you know how much your professional treatment of your patients is appreciated by both the patients and their family member. Thank You.
