About: Macclesfield District General Hospital

(as the patient),

What could be improved

I feel that the clerical staff and some of the nursing staff could benefit from some training on how to deal with patients and their realatives who are suffering from stress. The hospital could provide a sitting room for realatives to wait while their husband or wife have the treatment they have to have.I had to have a proceedure which I was very stressed about and my husband was not allowed to wait with me due to there being no room for him to sit with me.

We are very sorry that your experience at our hospital was not as good as you had hoped and that you felt that the staff did not appreciate your needs.

Unfortunately we do have limited waiting space in some of our short stay departments, and for this reason we ask relatives to wit in one of our rest areas, such as the WRVS café or the Treetops restaurant. Both of these are near to the treatment facilities in the hospital. In the case where a carer specifically needs to be present in the treatment area, we do allow this.

Our Customer Care Team run regular Customer Care courses and we have passed on your comments to them so that they can use your experience in their training sessions.

If you would like to discuss these matters further please contact the East Cheshire NHS Trust Customer Care Team on 01625 661449, freephone 0800 1613997 or minicom 01625 663723.
