"back pain"

About: National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery - Queen Square

Anything else?

After years of back pain I finally had to have some surgery. My consultant went over the xlif procedure several times with me and the fact that he may have to do more when he opened me up.Spent a week in hospital, where despite people being very poorly there was a good feel about the ward. The nurses were just amazing. My one comment of concern is,why do consultants come and talk to you in recovery when you are not in a fit state to take on board what they are saying! Much more communication with them would be benificial as it is them that you have seen in clinic.(just my thoughts)

Many thanks indeed for taking the time to write about your experience at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery. We are always very grateful to hear about the positive experience our patients have had. Thank you for raising the issues about consultants talking to patients in recovery. Whilst it is good practice for our consultants to see their patients post procedure in recovery you are of course correct that this is not always the place for a detailed discussion. This is best undertaken on the ward at a slightly later stage. I will feedback your valuable comments. Many thanks again.
