"Attending A & E Dept this morning "

About: Heartlands Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

I was unfortunately required to attend A & E with my 9yr old daughter who had trapped her hand in a door and was in pain. It took a couple of hours to sort her out and diagnose a broken finger, in the children's department and the treatment given was a little slow coming considering there were no children in the department when I arrived and no other children for at least an hour after arriving but nevertheless it was sorted and I was out within 3 hours.

The shock I had though when paying for my parking was second to none. £4. 75 for less than three hours parking in my opinion is absolutely highway robbery. You are a captive audience and when you are bringing in an injured child you cannot afford to wait around for public transport so you use your own if its available.

The parking fees previously were high enough but now it is just ridiculously high. No wonder local roads are filled with parked vehicles because no one can afford to park within the hospital car parks.

I have to take my daughter back on Friday and will now block the local side roads to park because I can't afford parking of this extortionate amount. There can be no justification for the cost being this high.
