Surgery was successful and Dad appeared to be in good shape a few hours after surgery. (Wednesday night) Eating and drinking. Following day, he had had a horrendous night with extreme pain in his urinary area and could not go to the toilet to urinate. He looked very gaunt and was obviously in extreme discomfort. This continued all day and nobody appeared to be doing anything about it, despite numerous requests from my Mother to sort him out.
We overheard a doctor say, can we get a bladder scan to one of the nurses. Nothing was done and no scan occurred. Neither did anyone monitor his urinary output. Again, nobody seemed to care at all. Watching him in pain made us feel totally sick.
We fetched him home on the Saturday, still obviously not in good shape, not because of the hip surgery, but because he felt sick and unable to eat and in considerable discomfort. We waited over 3 hours for a doctor to check his x rays to allow him to be released. I had to go to a ward to find a Doctor to check the x rays as because it was Saturday, there was only one Doctor around. I intend to send a full letter of complaint to the necessary people within the next week.
