"Worsening Chest Pain"

About: Lister Hospital

Anything else?

These are the symptoms the incredible A&E staff were faced with: Recently returned to the UK from the tropics. Suffering a cough for over 3 weeks. Asthmatic. Over 50. Ribs were pressed too hard in a massage. Breathless. Increasing chest pain. Everything was tested and viewed and some tests were repeated: X-ray, scan, blood tests, sugar level, ECG, BP. I was given excellent care; pain was dealt with and the staff did not stop testing until they found the culprit. 3 pills into my prescription, I needed no further pain medication and began to feel better. Spent a quiet week instead of what is more normal for me. I really cannot thank the staff enough for their diligence and help. A&E at Lister Hospital is one area of the NHS that does work well.

We've got a fantastic emergency department team here at the Trust, which at the Lister is also coping with a new £19 million unit being built around them and the patients they care for day-in, day-out. But that doesn't mean - as demonstrated so clearly in your feedback - that the quality of service they seek to provide to their patients dips in any way. We're really pleased that you felt so well looked after - something that we also know will delight our emergency department colleagues when they get to read your kind words - which already are on their way to them. In the meantime, we hope that you carry on making a full recovery.
