"Making patients wait"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

(as the patient),

What is happening at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital?

I have a long standing and well documented bone disease. I needed to see a neurosurgeon for spinal surgery (surgery which orthopaedics could not do) yet was referred to orthopaedics because neurosurgery had too long a list.

This not only prolonged my pain but wasted resources seeing orthopaedics first.

Then it was recommended that I have hydrotherapy after the operation but as they had a long waiting list I was referred to physiotherapy only to be told I need hydrotherapy. Given that I had already had hydrotherapy because physiotherapy was not suitable and the recommendation for this round of hydrotherapy came from the consultant why waste yet more resources by sending me to physiotherapy?

We keep hearing how cut backs are affecting patient care so why are patients being sent on a wild goose chase seeing the wrong people thus wasting more and more of the precious resources?

Update posted by Milton (the patient)

As I do not check this site very often I was a little slow in responding to BSUH who offered to talk me through my experience. I emailed them at the address given in their reply but a couple of months later and I am still waiting for them to contact me.

In the meantime, I had an MRI and CT scans in March but I cannot get an appointment for the results until July, and that was after I chased them. I offered to take a cancellation at short notice but was told that they do not do this. What a waste!
