"Wonderful treatment"

About: Victoria Hospital / Dermatology

(as the patient),

I would like to put on record my care at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Scotland.

I am 71 and I was treated at the Victoria Hospital in June 2013 suffering from cellulitis resulting from and infected hairline fracture to the fibula. I also had an allergic reaction to penicillin, which added to my distress as angry irritating rashes appeared over the rest of my body, which had never happened to me before.

I am writing to inform you of the wonderful treatment I received from various consultants and nursing staff from the moment I was admitted on the first evening. I was thoroughly examined and blood tests and urine samples taken. The cellulitis was quite severe progressing up my left leg to the knee with swelling and blistering and I was feeling pretty down.

When the rashes appeared, it was obvious to the doctors that I was experiencing an allergic reaction and that I would need a different antibiotic. I was so impressed with the sensitivity and care I was receiving that I said to myself I would express this to the staff on my discharge and write to the hospital to thank them profusely for the professional way I was handled. Since my discharge from the Victoria someone pointed out an article to me from the 'Daily Record and Sunday Mail' in May 2013 which strongly criticises the hospital. I am from London and spent most of my holiday in Scotland in the care of the Victoria Hospital so I would like to put on record my sincere thanks for the warmth, care and treatment I received there.

Dear Winstone

Thank you for your post. I was so sorry to hear that you spent most of your holiday in hospital,it is neither wonder you felt pretty down! I was pleased however to hear of the way in which staff treated you and will be delighted to share your feedback. It would be helpful if you could provide any more specific details about the areas where you received care, to make sure I get your feedback to the right people. Failing that I will be happy to share your post more generally, as receivng positive feedback does a lot to boost the morale of staff.

Thank you once again for taking the time to write.

Regards

Louise Ewing
