"Seemingly forgotten patient"

About: Good Hope Hospital / General surgery Heartlands Hospital / Hepatology

(as a relative),

My dad was an inpatient for 3 weeks had a drain inserted in to his liver, then it was capped off. He was discharged to have an x-ray and removal 6-10 days later.

14 days later x ray took place at GHH but drain not removed because doctor didn't authorise it. After contacting the surgical team, they seemed to have forgotten all about it and after a request was made, we're still waiting 6 weeks after it was inserted and were told this morning earliest appointment is around end of November early December.

My dad is in pain and discomfort from this tube in his side. In my opinion the dressings are a disgrace and no-one can change them because he wasn't referred and the dressings available locally are too small. He could buy them at a cost of £30 from the local pharmacy.

In my opinion this has been disgusting care from Heartlands Hospital.

I'm sorry your father had this experience at Good Hope Hospital. Could I please ask that you contact me on 0121 424 0808 or email me at iona.belgrove@heartofengland.nhs.uk so that I can obtain a few further details.

Kind regards

Iona
