"Ambulance Service and Others."

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

I have a long term Physical Dissability named Bilateral Perthes, due to this I am often in severe pain, particularly in the winter and autumn months, I called the ambulance service for an ambulance recently and it took over an hour and a half for me to reach the hospital, during which time I used an entire tank of Nitrous-Oxide, all whilst in severe pain in my left hip. Upon arriving in A&E admittedly I was admitted to an X-ray fairly quickly. However whilst waiting for this X-ray I tried to inform a nurse that I was incapable to move for the X-ray without some form of pain relief, I was then told by that nurse that "I don't care it's not my problem." I found this to be extremely rude especially since I am under sixteen and was quite distressed in the first place. Once in the X-ray room my mother informed the nurse performing the X-ray that I am unable to move my left leg. She then said this was fine, however once we were inside the X-ray room with my mother waiting outside, she made me move my leg several times with no pain relief to the point where I was in floods of tears. After being admitted to the childrens ward (130E) I was put on new medication, this medication was to be taking at eight in the morning and eight in the night and receivedmy eightAM medicine at twelvePM. this meant between eight and twelve (four hours) I was left in pain with no pain relief. because of this experience I was horrified, especially when they tried to discharge me without doing anything to aid me. I feel I was treated horribly and in a way that caused me more pain and fear than was necessary.

Thank you for placing your posting on the NHS Choices website. We are sorry to read of your recent experience and we will ensure that the staff concerned are made aware. Your experience is not one that we would want any patient, especially a young person to go through whilst in the care of the hospital. It is important that you or your parents contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service on (01482) 623065 or email on pals@hey.nhs.uk and provide more details so that we can investigate what happened on this occasion to improve the experience for you and other patients in the future. If you would like to become more involved in decisions about local healthcare, we are recruiting members. By becoming a member you receive our quarterly newsletter, find out more about your local NHS and help us improve local services. You can also attend our ‘medicine for members’ sessions and respond to questionnaires. You don’t need any special skills or experience to become a member; you just need an interest in local health services. There is no commitment, you can get involved as much or as little as you choose. For more information please either email your.nhs@hey.nhs.uk or telephone the Corporate Affairs office on telephone number (01482) 675165. Thank you once again for taking the time to provide us with your views on local NHS services. Kind regards, Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
