"out patients at Barts today"

About: St Bartholomew's Hospital

Anything else?

Thursday 3rd October 2013 I visited out patients today and made sure I was there early just in case of delays. The lavatories were filthy, not just the floor but corners china etc, standing in puddles still made me feel ill in case the fluid seeped into my shoes. I saw a notice to let staff know, so I approached staff who just turned away before I got to them, but it was obvious that i was approaching and looking directly at them. I thought i would leave patient feedback, but all the electronic patient feedback machines were broken, with scruffy notices saying out of order. They were also very dusty. I waited 15 minutes in the queue to check in for my appointment, all patients had to stand in line depsite disability, only to be met by cold and non communicative reception staff. After this I couldnt sit down as all the seat were in use, so had to loiter in the way. Called for my weight to be taken, only later to be told by Dr that I had lost weight. My actual weight had been recorded incorrectly, by 4 kilo's. After 55 minutes waiting past my appointment time I was called by a very hurried Dr who was still very kind and compassionate. The Dr apologised for the delay, but prior to this no recptionist or nurse made any announcments for the delays. We were just left waiting as a group in the waiting area. There was a brief message on the white board, but as the seats are not facing the board nobody could see the message, but it still wasnt clear what it meant. Surely someone could have bothered to tell us. There were no nurses to be seen anywhere, just a couple of care workers who were pleasant. One lady in a wheel chair was left stranded in the walkway blocking the route, with staff shouting backwards and forwards to her rather than going to talk to her. We all now know her medical plan and problems. The actual area was very scruffy and in fact dirty, corners and undersides were terrible, and the electric fan was black covered in old dry dust. Overall not a nice experience and late for work, still I saw my Dr who explained everything to me, but the general expereinece was dreadful. despite glossy magazines saying how wonderful the trust was.
