"Can't thank consultant enough"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

Anything else?

After 5 yrs of surgery 3 of which I have been under the care of my consultant I finally feel that someone understands what I'm going through. The consultnat is so approachable and speaks to you straight, no jargon and like a human and not some superior being. I will require further surgery, but on his advise I shall wait until it is absolutely necessary. I can't thank him enough for his help support and kindness.

Response from Head of Patient Engagement, Patient Safety and Quality, The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust

High quality relationships and good communication with our staff, consultants, nurses and other health professionals is, we know, at the centre of providing good services and continuous improvement.

We have lots of work to do to keep getting this right and to bring everyone up to the standard of the best, which I hope we are able to do most of the time, with most of our staff.

When we get it wrong, as does sometimes happen we want you to get in touch quickly and the best way to make contact is by making a call, we are only ever a phone call away. The number is 01279 82 70 84 and we are available 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday in the Patient Experience Team.

Response from Princess Alexandra Hospital

Thank you for feedback on communication between yourself and your consultant. Please do let him know directly how you feel about your care as this does encourage the development and extension of good practice. We all need feedback to help us understand what works and how we can improve our practice, this includes our senior clinicians and in fact all staff. It is really heartening to read your comments, so thank you. Please also remember that you can always make contact in other ways if you ever have a question or concern on 01279 827084 to make contact with the Patient Experience Team.
