My stepfather was admitted to Blackpool Victoria Hospital 2 months ago following a stroke.
The trust's immediate response was good - he saw a consultant quickly on a Sunday night by video link. He was skilled and had a good bedside manner.
The care that followed fell short of providing dignified care. He did not get regular toileting leading to accidents and he felt humiliated. He has macular degeneration and little attempt was made to ensure he was able to eat given his poor sight. He did not get regular showers.
The family had no information about his prognosis and no named nurse. Out of the blue my mother was told she needed to find a nursing home for him within the next 2 weeks - this was a total shock.
I am grateful I do not live locally and hence need to use this hospital. In my experience it falls well short of providing dignified care.
