"Lack of attention"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (King's Lynn)

Anything else?

As many people I was not visiting the hospital out of choice, my grandmother is poorly and is expected to pass away. Since being informed of this I have noticed a lack of unknowledgment from all hospital staff, I sit up the hospital for a good 4 hours before a member of staff appears unless I physically go and request them, I have been informed by staff themselfs that the hospital is understaffed but if that's the case there should be procedures in place to make sure that no patient is neglected. The machine that injects fluids/medicines is left beeping for hours, if I personally don't request that it's seen to and all this time my grandmother isn't getting her medicine or fluids. Beside the bed is a position change clock that staff use as a guid for when to turn my gtandmother however this clock isn't changed so I have to do that myself so they hopfully pay attention. Mouth wash: I was informed this is meant to be every hour however I sit by her bedside for hours without this being seen to, unfortunately my nan can not fend for herself nor is she able to talk or respond to questions or commands so I wouldn't want to do anything myself as I am not trained and wouldn't want to harm her or effect the equipment at all. A driver is also in the bed that is suppose to be checked however this isn't, I have been up the hospital all different hours of the day and night and have not been able to talk or see a doctor. The list goes on and on.. I wouldn't recommend this hospital to anyone I know or don't. I can't relate to the strain staff must have and I understand sometimes it may be extreamly busy but this is just not even close to a good standard. This is a distressing time for me and all family members without having to go home at night wondering if she's been attended to. Please if you can help it go els where! You'd probably be doing them a favour.

I am very concerned to read your summary of your experiences within the hospital, could I ask that you ring me on 01553 613613 ext 3562/bleep 3582 to urgently discuss your concerns so that all issues can be addressed immediately? Valerie Newton Deputy Director of Nursing and Patient Experience
