"I have been a patient on ward ..."

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

I have been a patient on ward 5 P.I.U. twice in the last 5 months and want to let you know that you have an excellent team on that ward. All of the staff make you feel at ease at a worrying time, they always have time for you. As for cleanliness, the ward cleaner that was on duty during my stay worked very hard in keeping the ward clean. I I notice that a buzzer by the bed has appeared. That was the biggest problem when I was in last year when I become a little unwell, there was no way to contact a nurse untill Fiona(sister) got me a ward bell. My overall stay x2 left me with good thoughts of this ward and an appreciation of the hard work the staff on there do.

What could be improved

My biggest problem was waiting for drugs after discharge. Being discharged at 11.00 a.m. I expected to be able to go straight home, but no, I was asked to vacate my bed for another patient(ward34). Spent one hour in the corridor then another hour waiting for a porter to take me to the dischge ward in a wheelchair. Then sat in that wheelchair untill 4.55 when my prescription arrived, then I could go home. I had been quite ill and the long wait being unable to lie down was unaccedptable. In may, same thing, discharged at 11.30, prescription taken to pharmacy. They were rung at 1.45. and we were tol;d 1/2hr. 40mins later nurse said we could collect prescription. pharmacy sent us back to the ward. Had to wait untill 3.20 for prescription to arrive. There must be a simpler way to get drugs to take home instead of having people wait so long
