My father had the misfortune to be admitted to Ward 14 after being in A and E for a few hours. He had nothing to eat or drink as it was an emergency admission in the early hours of the morning. By 3pm he was exhausted and needed to eat something. A sandwich was requested but never arrived. After about an hour a nurse did make him a coffee and toast. The next day (after being on an antibiotic drip all night and a catheter in place) he was told he was fit for discharge and transport had been arranged. No transport materialised all day so he was kept in for another night. My very elderly mother was informed that the transport was arranged for about 8.30 the next morning. He again waited all day and eventually was collected about 8.15 p.m and arrived home at 9.45p.m. Totally exhausted and in an awful state that my Mum 89years old had to cope with. We had had numerous phone calls to the ward during the day asking for more information and was also told that he was perfectly all right and had had 2 good bowel motions, as he was very constipated on admission. I now learn from my Dad that he didn't go to the toilet for the whole time he was in hospital. This could have been an extremely serious condition which was ignored. He was also sent home with a leg bag catheter but no night bag to connect it to. I am really disappointed with his treatment. This was his first admission to hospital in 91 years, so a very bad experience for him. He said this morning when I visited please don't ever send me to Redditch Hospital again.
