Anything else?
My 16 year old son was seriously ill in St Helier hospital for 4 nights, during which he was housed in 6 separate beds (including the 3 in A&E). A&E was dirty with lots of rubbish on the floor (I counted 8 pieces of rubbish I could see, despite a cleaner going round doing nothing much as far as I could see). The nursing staff (with two very notable exceptions) were completely uncaring and did not keep us informed about what was going on - I sat and listened to a bell ringing at their station whilst they carried on chatting for several minutes before going to investigate the bell. The doctors (on the rare occasions they deemed it necessary to come round - they didn't at all Saturday or Sunday, as patients aren't supposed to be sick at weekends), were very good, just too absent. The food was appalling - no 5 a day and poorly balanced. Living on hospital food would make you ill. A totally stunning dfference to Queen Mary, when everyone from the cleaners to the consultants were superb.
