"Short and not so sweet"

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

Anything else?

I visited the ultrasound department at Chester-le-Street hospital for an abdominal scan. The scan took 3 minutes, instead of the 15 -30 minutes stated in my letter. The sonographer did not introduce himself. He was quite curt to me throughout the examination. I felt rushed on and off the couch. I do not think there was any attempt to maintain my dignity and I am very self-conscious about my stoma. I do not think the scan was adequately done . My visit was short but not so sweet. My husband complained in writing about the scan taking only 3 minutes.. He has just received a reply, which is the usual brush off letter that we are getting used to now, after four dreadful years of having to cope with an NHS that is not fit for purpose. It should not be necessary to have to teach staff to care. Caring should come naturally to people who choose to work with sick people. Obviously it is necessary to teach what should be a fundamental requirement for people to get a job in the NHS. This Trust needs to train some of it's staff basic communication skills and the fundamentals of care. i volunteer to teach both if the Trust would dare to let me.
