"Meningitis - how my 14 month old grandson survived."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital / Accident and emergency Southampton Children's Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a relative),

My 14 month old grandson was admitted Queen Alexandra Hospital's A&E department in the early hours in April 2013 and diagnosed with meningitis. The quick thinking staff were compassionate, supportive, informative, professional and above all, truly caring.

When stabilised by the QAH, team he was transferred to PICU at Southampton. The excellent care continued and the staff were equally supportive and professional. Whilst our family were truly terrified at what the outcome could be, we were kept informed at every stage as to what was happening and what we could expect. Our questions were answered honestly and with total compassion.

My grandson made a full recovery and I cannot thank all the staff involved at both hospital sites enough. The teamwork between both hospitals was clearly evident and my grandson's care truly outstanding.

Thank you to everyone involved - you saved his life.
