"Appalling waiting times and service at the EPUB"

About: Harrogate District Hospital

Anything else?

My wife recently miscarried, and was informed that she was entitled to treatment to help pass what remains of her pregnancy. She was asked to come into the ward to speak to the duty doctor to confirm further treatment. So on the 19 sept 2013 at about 1345 hrs my wife arrived and was asked to wait to be seen. After waiting for approximately 1 hour my wife approached the nurses station to enquire what was happening with regards to her appointment, and the nurses replied with a less than satisfactory response and told her to continue waiting. Another hour passed and still no doctor, again my wife approached the nurses station to inquire about the wait and they again replied with "I don't know how long you will have to wait, it could be a minute, and hour or more." At this point my wife was forced to leave due to having to feed my 16 month old child. This is the second time we have used this hospital and both times the treatment can only be described as appalling.

Thank you for your feedback, which we greatly value. I am sorry that your experience with us was not of the high quality that we strive for. Whilst some waiting is inevtiable in a busy Hospital environment, we would be happy to look into your experience to see if your wife was unnecessarily delayed in seeing a doctor. If you would like us to do so, please contact our Patient Experience Team on 01423 555499 or email thepatientexperienceteam@hdft.nhs.uk In terms of the attitude of staff, we would always expect them to be polite and courteous to all of our patients and visitors and provide as much accurate information as they are able to. I am sorry if your wife felt that she was not treated with proper courtesy on this occasion. Thank you again for taking the time to contact us and we would be happy to follow up the issues you have raised if you would like us to do so.
