"I visited the hospital for a routine ..."

About: Fairfield General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I visited the hospital for a routine operation in March. The lady who I spoke to at the Pre-Operative assement was friendly and followed the telephone call up ith a letter confirming times etc.

On the ward the staff were friendly helpful and made me feel at ease. The theatre staff were nice and explained what was going to happen. Everyone at the hospital were nice and made my stay as comfortable as possible. The only one thing I didn't like is that no visitors are allowed to stay during meal times. As I was waiting to go to theatre during meal times I had to sit on my own as my husband was not allowed to stay. I am very sensitive to things being clean and I felt 100% happy with the ward and my bed.

I have visited this hospital on a number of occassions and would have no worries if I had to go again. Well done to a great team of staff.

What could be improved

Allow visitors to stay during meal times. Some patients also need the help of their families to help them eat.

The temperature of the hospital was a little too hot and could save you money if turned down.

We're glad to hear that the staff were helpful. Many wards don't allow visitors to stay during meal times because of a scheme called 'Protected Mealtimes'. We introduced this after discussion wtih patients, to ensure that they had time to eat their meals undisturbed. We also minimise clinical activity on wards during these times. We usually have had positive feedback about this, because it gives patients time to enjoy their meals. If a patient needs additional assistance with meals then ward staff will be able to discuss this with them.
