Anything else?
I am writing about the failure of care my brother received last month whilst under the care of Mental health services. He was given extended leave from a section 3 and within two days his mental health deteriorated and St Ann's was contacted to ask for support and help. We were directed to the crisis team, who didn't want anything to do with my brother as he was under the care of the hospital as he was "on leave". We were then passed back to the crisis team and were told they would visit at 9am. We then received another call from the crisis team who informed us, they would be late and wouldn't visit for another few hours. During this time my brother made several attempts on his life. This lack of care from both teams left the family having to deal with situations that should not have arisen. Communication between family, patients and hospital staff is vital in caring for family members and dealing with their health and well being. Family should be aware of the riskfamilies face when a patient is discharged back into their care, and given clear instructions on who too contact in an emergency. There is no communication between the services and no urgency or empathy expressed and was told as he had never acted before on command voices, he did not pose a threat. We feel let by the services involved and appauld at the waste of resources that were used to locate and treat my brother, when it was avoidable if the either the crisis team or hospital had responded and acted on my mothers initial call in a timely manner.
