Anything else?

Was taken into A&E feeling very unwell.Ambulance staff absolutely wonderful,A&E busy but staff professional and soon got pain relief sorted out and diagnosis. After 4 hours transferred to Surgical Assessment Unit at 0200,the place was lit up like Blackpool Illuminations with all the lights on and staff literally a few yards away talking very loudly and the phone ringing non stop. When I asked if the lights could be lowered I was told that this is an extension of A&E and I would have to put up with it,I pointed out that the people there were unwell and how could you recover in an atmosphere like that in the early hours .I got the impression that the nurse concerned thought I was a nuisance.I did try and sleep but it was impossible as you were continually awoken for various things. There was no privacy or dignity as my partner closed the curtains to try and keep out the lights someone would immiediately reopen them. What a night, was eventually moved to another ward which was darker and quieter but still noisy, but have never been happier than to be sent home as apart from feeling very unwell I was exhausted.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear of your positive experience with ambulance service and our emergency department staff. We are sorry to hear about the issues you raise around the rest of your experience and will be looking into each of the matters with the relevant teams. Privacy and dignity is extremely important to us and it’s clear that the high standards we expect were not delivered. We hope you are now recovering well. All the best, Medway Maritime Hospital team
