"Fantastic care in A and E"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

Anything else?

On 14th September 2013 about 1330 hours my father collapsed whilst having lunch at a Restaurant in Castleford. He was conveyed to Pinderfields, A and E Department by Ambulance together with my mother. I was contacted by phone by one of the para-medics who updated me with the situation and informed me where my father was being conveyed to. This allowed me time to get over to the hospital some 30 miles from my home in order to support my mother and father. On initial arrival at the Hospital I entered the main entrance and ask a member of staff on the reception desk where I needed to go. I was informed clearly and precisely how to get to the A and E Department. On arrival at the A and E Department I again had to ask for assistance as to where I needed to be and again the receptionist was nothing other than a credit to the NHS Trust. I then located my parents in the A and E where the very busy staff were very professional. A staff nurse and a doctor both visited in turn and gave their full details to us as they introduced their selves and clearly informed us of what treatment and tests were going to be conducted. The clear and calming manner of these two members of staff gave me great confidence that my father was in the best hands possible. Various tests were conducted and we were updated as the results came through. A full and detailed explanation was given by the Doctor who not only gave brilliant treatment at the time but also arranged for a detailed letter to be presented to my father to give to his GP next week for further tests. She also ensured that all her instructions were clearly understood for the best care for my father before he was allowed to be discharged. I am only sorry I did not record the details of the staff nurse and doctor who treated my father at Pinderfields Hospital A and E Department on 14/9/2013 at about 1400 hours. They were both a credit to them selves and the NHS in General. It is truly staff like these that have given the NHS the trust and support from the public, and the Calm and respectful manner in which they cared for my father, at a busy time for the Department should be recognised. Thank you very much
