"Long wait for biopsy results"

About: Wansbeck Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I had day surgery on ward 10 in March this year.

The care on the ward was very good and the nurses really nice. My problem was with the aftercare also. I was given the dis charge form and sent home. Biopsy results were to follow. I expected them within about 2 weeks, when they did not arrive I telephoned my consultants secretary who said they could take up to 3 weeks.

I waited another 2 weeks and phoned again. I was advised that although she had them on screen I would have to wait until the consultant had drafted the letter. I waited another week or more without hearing and this time was determined to find out and almost begged for them.

The secretary went away, came back and advised me only of the last line on the drafted letter..worries over at last! It took another week or so for the consultants letter to arrive.

Such a shame after a positive experience on the ward.

Dear Madam Thank you for your kind reflections on the care you received on ward 10, as well as your comments about the staff. I am really sorry that your really positive experience of care has been marred somewhat by the delay in providing you with information relating to your biopsy. It is very important that our patients receive information in a timely manner and I am so sorry this was not the case for you. I can fully understand why this wait would have added to your concerns. It would be helpful if you could forward me your details directly so that I can raise this with team - I know they will want to listen to your feedback and make any changes they need to in order to improve. My email is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk. Thanks again for getting in touch, Best Wishes, Annie Laverty - Director of Patient Experience
