I was admitted to A&E via ambulance from my doctors surgery. I had had an allergic reaction to some medication and blood pressure was very high, I was put into resus for about 2 hours, I seem to remember several tests being carried out, blood pressure, my heart was monitored ect. I was then moved to a cubicle in A&E where I was left for about 3 to 4 hours without any help or medication. When at last a doctor came to see me he asked how I was and I said I still felt terrible and he said the medication should have started to work, I told him I had had no medication, he looked shocked checked my notes rushed off somewhere and a few minutes later I was given some pills to take. About 1 hour or so after that the same doctor came to see me, I still felt really ill, he said I could go home, it was around 3.30pm and I realised none of my friends would be able to help as the school run was on. I asked for assistance to find a taxi because I decided for all the care I was getting I would be better off alone at home. No assistance was given and eventually I managed to stager out and get a cab ..... the taxi driver was horrified and did not want to take me, eventually I managed to persuade him to, but he was very nervous and did not think he was doing the right thing. A real shame I had such a bad experience at A&E, I have had reason to use HDH on quite a few occasions and always found it to be a good hospital. In this experience, I was freezing cold, very unwell and very frightened, at no point did anyone try to tell me what was happening to me. I cannot believe they could discharge me, I was obviously so unwell, without somebody to pick them up, or without explaining to me what had happened to me.
