"My long stay and fantastic care throughout"

About: Alexandra Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was under the diabetic clinic(gestational ) at the Alex for my 4th pregnancy. The care throughout the pregnancy was excellent. I was seen every other week by the diabetic team and midwives.

I was due to be induced at 38 weeks due to insulin dependent gestational diabetes. A growth scan at 36 weeks showed my baby in a transverse lie and I was admitted there and then to ward 15 for the next 2 weeks, due to the concern of early labour and cord prolapse.

I was given my own room and the care I received was excellent. Every single midwife I saw was excellent and they all looked after me so well.

Each day both me and my baby were checked and that was such a comfort as my previous 2 pregnancies had ended in miscarriage.

I 'celebrated' my 42nd birthday on ward 15 prior to my baby's birth. A cake was sent from catering and happy birthday was sung to me. Due to gestational diabetes I was unable to eat the cake, but catering made me a special sugar free trifle.

I was scheduled for a section on Tues 3rd September and everything went smoothly and my little girl was born at 9. 55am weighing 7. 4.

All the staff during to procedure were excellent and the care I received back on ward 15 was excellent.

There was a student midwife called Lousie who looked after the 2 days after my baby's birth, she was excellent and will make an excellent midwife.

My stay in total was 19 days and strange as it may sound, I enjoyed my stay. I was looked after so well by excellent caring staff.

I felt I had to write this as I am horrified that there is talk of the maternity services closing and being moved elsewhere. This will be an absolute tradegy for The Alex to lose the maternity services.

The staff here should be rewarded for the way In which this department is run and should be allowed to continue to look after future mom's and babies.
