"Helped me to take control of panic attacks, instead of them controlling me"

About: Inclusion Matters Liverpool

(as the patient),

I was being treated for panic attacks by your counselor.

Initially I thought it would be me talking about all my problems, which I have done with counselor before. However, the treatment I received from Ian, my counselor, was different.

He gave me exercises to do to try to help myself take control of the panic attacks, instead of them controlling me. Also, he gave me exercises for me to make myself believe through evidence and medical fact that panic attacks won't make me lose control or kill me, which I sometimes felt.

Ian suggested I was suffering from depression and encourage me to go and see my doctor to discuss my problems with her so that the doctor could give me the support I needed.

I was given other exercises to try and push myself a little further each week, to try and help myself with panic attacks and depression and that taking small steps are important.

I found my counselor really calming and understanding and would listen if I felt the need to talk to try and explain my behaviour and 'feelings' to him.

I felt he was very empathetic and understanding.
