My local GP recently changed to a 044 number, for their 'patients convenience and access". My wife just got her phone bill and has been charged £6. 55 for calls.
She was told by the practice (Higherland surgery, Newcastle under Lyme) that they do have another number, but they don't have to publish it.
It's bad enough that some older people can't afford to pay their fuel bills, now they have to pay just to see their GP if they happen to get ill because of the cold winters we can have. That a GP practice should profit from patients phoning whilst ill is a disgrace!
The receptionist also said 'well, we have a, wait in line system now so you don't have to call back" to which my wife replied "yes I can see that on the phone bill! ! ! "
"GP surgery's expensive phone charges "
