"Care in Ward 12 Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Respiratory medicine Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Stroke care

(as a relative),

My father, who had many health problems, recently passed away in the above ward. He had been in Ward 12 a few times over the past 4 years and most of the nursing staff knew him well.

The care shown to my father by the whole Ward 12 team over the years but in particular in his last days was exceptional. Furthermore, the support given to me and the family was beyond criticism. My father's last days were peaceful, dignified and without pain. The family were treated with respect, courtesy and kindness.

Nothing was too much trouble for the ward team, everything was explained to us and re-explained if necessary. We were encouraged to ask if we needed anything for Dad or for ourselves and if we didn't ask, the staff would discretely check that everything was ok.

I have nothing but praise for these caring and hard working people.

Response from Jacqueline Nicholson, Senior Charge Nurse, Acute Stroke and respiratory unit, NHS Dumfries and Galloway

Dear KF

It was so uplifting to receive this comment through Patient Opinion. It was great to hear we supported you and your family through a difficult time and you felt our team in ward 12 delivered that support in a caring and compassionate way.

We strive to provide excellent care but to also improve on a patient and carers experience whether this be good, bad or average.

Patient Opinion is a good forum for this and we can discuss any feedback at work meetings and spread good news or look at improvement plans.

Thanks for your comment

Jacqueline Nicholson, Senior Charge Nurse
