"Excellent care for hip replacement "

About: Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital

(as the patient),

I had a hip replacement last December, less than 3 months from first going to my GP about increasing hip problems. The initial xray was done locally.

I was referred to the Referral Management Team at the PCT and offered care at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital or NHS care at a private provider in East Anglia, not including Spire Norwich though, which is on the door step.

I knew that the NNUH was struggling to meet the demand for orthopaedic surgery and felt the slots there were best used for less fit patients who might need ICU facilities. So I opted for Cambridge Spire as my partner had had a good experience there 3 years ago.

All went very smoothly, accommodation and catering were excellent and I was home on day 3. X rays were available electronically. I did have to make the 120 mile round trip to have a preop assessment and blood test which perhaps could have been done locally.

Having a single room was great for me but may not suit people who need company.
