"Neck Lump ( Bump)"

About: Chorley & South Ribble Hospital

Anything else?

I visited RPH on the morning of 31/07 2013 being referred by my GP the week before. Had the bump assessed by a specialist nurse and fluid taken and showed empathy when I felt faint and was sick! Had to return for 3pm that day for results. Saw a consultant who explained an inconclusive result where he gave me reassurances and the opportunity to ask questions regarding removing the bump and what they would do. A good MOT and further tests on the bump- ( I thought that was a wonderful description ) takes away the fears. Went on the waiting list - 1 week later was phoned by admissions and took the opportunity of a cancelation for the 12/08/2013 on ward 3. There was a hitch, I had an afternoon admission, however received a phone call from the ward; I was expected at 7.30. No worries they asked what I had to eat and drink and as I hadn't, could I get in within the next 1/2 an hour. I was accommodated, although I saw two wonderful anaesthetists before I was actually gowned up, they went through what they would be doing and made provision for me to take medication I had missed that day due to my own confusion. I felt like they were looking after me not just doing their job. The charge nurse, what a character- really made me feel relaxed. Walked down to theatre with him and his friendly manner was not a silent trip into the unknown- I felt re-assured purely by his manner and chatty nature. Got to theatre, surprised that there was no delays due to lunch breaks. Again saw the two anaesthetists-I can't express enough how professional and compassionate they both were- I wish I had got their names because if I had to go for an op in future I would put in a request. I saw the doctor who was doing the procedure and I had briefly seen on the ward waiting area who spoke to me and introduced himself- but it was in passing as I was a very late attendee but relieved to have been seen so promptly. Came round and went back to ward. A Junior doctor came to see me and said what they had done and said I could go home. Saw the pharmacist technician where meds were sorted out. Staff nurse said the consultant insists that she sees all her patients prior to going home. Time was ticking on and I did request that I was allowed to go home as my husband had arrived and gone asleep in the very comfy chair- I was tempted to leave him but thought better of it. The nurse explained again about the meds and the do's and do not's and if I have any worries what to do. I received a further appointment for the results at Chorley on the 29th August 2.30 pm. I sat down and waited approximately 12 minutes, was called and saw him. I was more than satisfied with the professionalism and extremely thorough service I had experienced from everybody I had seen on this nerve racking experience and praise the NHS knowing full well the front line services at both RPH and Chorley and my GP had over exceeded my expectations.
