"My day care exxperience"

About: Woodland Hospital

Anything else?

I had an appointment made for a procedure. After seeing the Consultant about four weeks previous. On the day preceding my appointment I was rung by the Hospital to have my admission time changed from morning to afternoon. I was not pleased about this as I had to starve and do other preparations If the call had been before lunch I could have had a light lunch. Later on I got another call saying I could go in the morning but half hour later than previously arranged. I arrived on time was taken straight to the unit and shown to a very nice room. A nurse booked me in then asked me to put a gown on, left the room and closed the door. About half an hour later, someone came in and put a canula in my arm. I was left in total for two and a half hours. Nobody came in to see if I was ok. I did express my anxietys to the Nurse. Eventually the Nurse came in and said I would be going for the precedure in twenty minutes for the procedure The Consultant came in, I expressed my fears to him but he said nothing to allay my fears. I was taken to the consulting room> the nurses were not particularly firiendly or re~assuring> the consultant did not acknowledge my presence> He just said when he was starting. Not at any stage did he explain what he was doing . A nuirse squeezed my abdomen on his intructions and neither the Nurse or the Consultant explained why this was done. After the procedure I was told of the outcome. I felt like a piece of meat not a person and feel like I was treated with total indifference. I myself am a retired Nurse and in my career there is no way I would have treated anyone in this manner. I will not ne returning for my follow up visit and have asked my GP to refer me to the local NHS Hospital for the next procedure. I have been an out and in patient several ttimes and have always been treated with dignity and respect which i feel as I was not on this occasion, From the changing of the appointment time, to the length of time I was sat shut in a room, feeling very anxious,, to the way I was treated with indifference by the Consultant
