"Bunion surgery at George Eliot Hospital"

About: George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services

Anything else?

I had surgery for a bunion ,which was a scarf osteotomy, and other procedures on the 29th August 2013.This was undertaken at the George Eliot Hospital. My Consultant was very kind and reassuring to me and explained my procedure. I felt extremely confident with him. He listened to everything I said to him. Whilst waiting in the DPU the staff were very kind and caring. I was taken to theatre in the afternoon and I had 2 lovely young Anaesthetists, who really made me feel a lot less anxious, than the way I had been feeling. I was worried about the level of pain relief I would be given following my operation, having had this procedure carried out in January on my other foot, again they listened compassionately to me, and the appropriate pain relief administered to me on a regular basis. Al the staff that I came into contact with on Alexandra ward were again very kind and caring people, and nothing was too much trouble for them. I had a trainee physiotherapist who asked me questions and gave advice on various exercises. Then I had the qualifed Physiotherapist, he walked with me with my crutches down the ward , he also asked if I wanted him to check my walking up and down stairs. He offered very good advice for moving about on crutches. Then on my discharge the HCA was absolutely brilliant. I was going to walk to the lift etc and to our car. She wouldn't hear of it. She went and got a wheelchair and took me to our car. So a very good patient experience was achieved.

Thankyou for your very positive comments and these will be shared with staff. I hope that you are soon fully recovered from your surgery. Regards, Christine Longstaff, Head of Patient Partnership.
