I came in for day surgery to Good Hope Hospital this summer.
After being called in for 8am, I went down for surgery at 4: 15 pm.
The surgery went well but the anaesthetic affected me due to being without food & water for so long. So I then had to stay in overnight along with another lady.
The night staff came on. There were 2 staff members on our ward.
One was fantastic and she could not help enough.
The other staff member gave me pain relief that was prescribed for the other lady on the ward & even wrote it on her chart, although the lady did not have any pain relief during the night.
This was discovered in the morning when the next shift came on & asked me if I wanted any pain relief as I hadn't had any, when I knew I had.
This was added to the fact that I believe this staff member may have spent part of her shift asleep. I was in the bed next to the station & I saw her sat with her head on the desk snoring.
It's a good job she didn't mix up the medication the other way round as the other lady was wearing a red wristband, but then she didn't check mine anyway.
