"My son was in p3 ward for bone ..."

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My son was in p3 ward for bone marrow transplant 2 yrs ago , he was treated with the greatest of respect as we where as parents , The staff from Consultants to ward auxillarys have been great , Nothing was to much trouble

I would like to point out the way the day care staff have welcomed us in to there small family giving tea ,sandwiches through out the day and kind words when they have been needed

We have now been sent to day clinic every few months and in someway miss seeing the staff although it is good to see my son getting better

Could I please point out the nurses and the doctor for all there help and support that is the Bone Marrow Team , plus all other ward staff.

What could be improved

My son pointed out internet in the isolation rooms and fresher cooked food , although I must have to admit being up on top floors unless you have Gordon Ramsey up there there is no chance of that happening

Response from Royal Hallamshire Hospital

The Trust is investing £4.5 million in refurbishing haematology, which is due for completion in the summer (2008). The refurbishment includes the provision of additional single rooms with en suite facilities, and we are exploring the possibility of internet access in these rooms. In addition, there will be a 2 bed bay and communal day room designed specifically for young people, which will include internet access and other facilites appropriate for young people. We are working closely with the Teenage Cancer Trust for their input and advice regarding the provision of appropriate facilites.

Regarding the provision of food, the catering team are currently reviewing the patient menu offered on P3. They are working closely with the dietitian, clinical staff and patients to design a menu which meets the needs of this group of patients.

The catering staff welcome comments and feedback from patients regarding the provision of meals and they are always happy to meet with the patient at the time and to resolve any problems on the spot.
