I had both my sons at thepruh, with my first I was induced on the labour ward and my second in the birthing centre (which was not my choice but there were no rooms available on the labor ward!!). Both times I have felt their lives have been put at risk. During the birth of my first, I was in the induction process on the maternity ward and my baby was being monitored. The baby's heartbeat kept dropping rapidly and once even set of an alarm which made the midwife come running. She said I needed to be seen by a doctor urgently but we had to wait 3 hours to see one! (The same doctor that tried to break my waters with his hand) Both my husband and I were petrified. Luckily my son was fine. With my second, I had gone into early labor at home and was in a great deal of pain. I went to labour ward in agony but they sent me home as I wasn't dilating! I knew something wasn't quite right. We went back that evening as the pain had become unbearable in my back. I was examined by a doctor on the labour ward who told me the pain was a problem in my bowel and I was sent home again as i wasnt dilating and there was no room to stay there! A couple of hours later the pain had become so bad that I was unable to walk or talk so we went back. The labour ward wouldn't even see me and sent me to the birthing centre. It must have taken me 20 minutes to walk from the labourward to the birthing centre as i was in so much pain - It was awful. This wasn't my choice, however the staff were lovely and tried to make me comfortable. Things started to progress quickly but my baby wasn't facing in the correct position. My husband tells me that he could see the panic on the midwives faces as my son was being born. I was begging them to take me to the labour ward but it was too late, my son was born facing upwards with the cord wrapped twice around his body. My son is now under a specialist for nerve damage to his neck and face. I feel that if i had the birth i had planned and had been monitored correctly this would not have happened.
