"Dentist wouldn't extract tooth"

About: Montfield Hospital / Dental care NHS 24

(as the patient),

In June I fractured my molar causing moderate pain. I contacted the dentist and asked for an appointment to have it repaired; one was made for me within 6weeks. Over the course of the weekend the pain got worse even with pain killers I was feeling large amounts of pain and maxing the dose of nsaids and paracetamol/codeine I was advised. I was worried so by end of the week I contacted nhs24 who were unhelpful but did say the dentist would call me back. my partner was in hospital and I had a 5 month old baby at the time so tooth ache was the last thing I needed, I wanted it out asap so I could focus on being a parent. A dentist called me after 2 hours was very blunt, said I was not worth seeing and to call montfield in the morning and keep taking paracetamol. End of phone call.

I put in a horrible night with tooth ache and a baby and had to sort child care while I was at the dentist as family could not help on a monday (why the weekend would have been ideal).

Nhs Shetland dental service does not need reminded about the poor intake in registering adult patients, but now it seems it is difficult to be seen when you are in pain. I couldn't believe the dentist wouldn't extract the tooth out of hours!
