"Now I can go a long time without needing the toilet, and it’s changed my life!"

About: Locala Community Partnerships CIC / Continence advisory service

(as the patient),

I attended the continence service in Eddercliffe. Julia, the nurse that I saw, was very helpful. I’ve suffered with a weak bladder for years. Julia explained clearly to me what my treatment would be, and helped with choosing the correct tablets.

Before I started treatment, I couldn’t go 20 minutes without going to the toilet. I couldn’t even walk my dog without having to pop back to go to the loo and work out where toilets were on the way.

Now I can go a long time without needing the toilet, and it’s changed my life! I did initially have a few side effects, but they have now subsided and Julia helped me through this.

I can walk the dog for 2-3 hours at a time, and I even went to a concert the other day and didn’t need the toilet.

It’s surprising how something which seems like a small thing can completely change your life. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. Although it can seem embarrassing at first, I highly recommend to anyone suffering with incontinence problems to see someone about it. It’s worth it.

A couple of weeks after treatment, Julia even called me to see how I was getting on. I’d like to thank her for her support, she has been brilliant.

Thankyou for your positive comments.

So many people put up with bladder problems for years out of embarrassment. The symptom of having to go to the loo every 20 minutes is more common than you'd think!

Some people with overactive bladder symptoms do find medication helpful. We work closely with GP's when we feel medication is required to supplement bladder training.

I am delighted that you found Julia's support so valuable. We have recenlty started to use telephone consultations to follow up patient's progress and it appears to be working very well.

I hope your dog doesn't get too tired with the longer walks!

Very best wishes.
