"Administration Needs Serious Attention"

About: Bristol Eye Hospital

Anything else?

I'm afraid that our experiences are that what the doctor tells you and what actually happens bear no relation. If the consultant tells you he wants to see you in a week, or 6 weeks, I suspect he thinks that will happen. In reality (from my experience) you chase up an appointment once you realise it's not going to arrive on your doorstep and find no one has made an appointment!! This has happened twice now in my father's case. He is an 88 year old man who had a cataract removed where the operation did not go according to plan, so extra care was needed to ensure recovery occurred as hoped. After today's call - the second regarding this appointment, I am told, there is no record, I will investigate and get back to you - will this be today? I ask, no, hopefully by the end of the week, but if you don't hear by next Tuesday, try ringing again! I am sofrustrated!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment on NHS Choices – we have passed this on to the team at the Bristol Eye Hospital. We are sorry to hear about your experience and would like to extend this apology to your father. We have been carrying out a programme service improvements at the Bristol Eye Hospital which will address issues around administration and ease of contacting the hospital. Thank you again for your comment.
