"Talking to my therapist helped me cope with my breast cancer treatment"

About: Inclusion Matters Liverpool

(as the patient),

I have to sincerely thank the therapist that made me feel at ease on our first meeting, and that I was able to open up to her and discuss all that I had been through after my surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy last year.

I was scared, anxious and feeling really depressed after my breast cancer treatments and in a lot of pain. With being able to talk about this with someone that really listened over the weeks, and took all that I said on board, we were able to discuss areas that I could help myself with. By dealing with things one step at a time, rather than being overwhelmed and not able to cope with all that was going on with my family or life in general.

I set goals for myself each week, and was so happy and I felt so good when I completed these goals. This gave me more confidence and made me feel more positive about myself. Talking to my therapist made me feel able to cope with all that happened last year, and I am now feeling more positive about my future, life and happiness.

I am looking forward to attending the pain management program in approx 3 months time, as I think this will help me cope with my pain. I'm so thankful that my therapist recommended and put my name forward for this.

Sincere thanks for your service Ruth, that has made me look forward to my future happiness.

Dear Sent902

Thank you so much for your warm and heart felt words. It sounds like you have been on a very difficult journey, and you still have challenges ahead.

Setting small goals and working towards them at your own pace is a crucial part of bringing about change, it's good to hear it worked so well for you.

Sharing your experience of our service, and in particular with Ruth, is very valuable, both for the service to know how your experience was and for other people who may be in a similar situation wondering what to expect from coming to see us. Ruth is aware of this message and is very grateful for your thanks.

Good luck with the pain management programme.

With kind wishes

Sian
