"Exercises had a significant affect on my sciatica"

About: Community Health Services / Community physiotherapy

(as the patient),

My GP referred me to the physiotherapy because my sciatica was getting worse. I couldn't stand for more than a few minutes! Queuing, ironing, gardening etc.

The physiotherapist taught me exercises and things to avoid like heavy shopping and lifting (great grandchildren, mainly! ! ). The exercises are more stretching and holding the position which has had a significant affect on my sciatica.

That, and not being silly about carrying heavy goods have really taught me to understand that to have a good social life I must adhere to these changes.

I realise the rest of wear and tare with my age and if I learn to adjust there is no reason not to enjoy my active life.
