I was recently admitted onto the EAU ward of the hospital after having had a ride in an ambulance and a visit to Emergency Care following a recent migraine episode. I cannot complain about their thoroughness, having had a CT scan and a Lumbar Puncture why they ruled out anything more sinister. On admission I was taken straight to an isolation cubicle so that all lighting could be turned off as I was very sensitive to light. When being moved between my temporary room and the CT scanner the porters were amazing, putting a sheet over my head to protect me from the glare of the lights and were very vocal keeping me informed with all that was going on around me at all times. I eventually had some very good pain relief and was comfortable and was discoursing at one point being allowed to go home but as not all the results were back from the lumbar puncture they erred on the side of caution and decided to admit me over night.. During this time I was monitored and despite having very low blood pressure I was managing to get some much needed sleep until 2.45am when I was woken to be told that they were going to move me as the unit was now getting rather busy. I at this point requested more pain relief as the morphine that I had recieved earlier had by now worn off and was in severe discomfort again. I was then given more oral medication and was told that as I was feeling unwell and needed more meds that I would be staying there for the time being. I was then woken again at 6-00 am by a porter who came to inform me that I was being moved to a gynaecolical ward where there was a spare bed for me and after a very bumpy ride was soon installed in a lovely cubicle that was made as dim as possible by the porter before he left the room. I was then rather upset when someone came in to do my observations a short time later who immediately put the blind up completely flooding the room with light that immediately bought on severe pain yet again. After looking at my chart she instead of noticing my sensitivity to light did notice that I lived on the same street as her best friend who she then went on to discuss at great length. I did ask her to put the blind back down after I explained my sensitivity to light which she did after completing the needed checks she was there to perform. She then left to get me more medication to try and make me comfortable again. Very shortly after a cleaner came and asked if she could Hoover my room. This she did and although very pleasant it did cause more pain due to the noise level. I then had my bedding changed at 8.00 and had at least 2 more offers of this before leaving later that day. At no point was I told that I had my own bathroom facilities, despite asking numerous times if my results were back and was it ok to go home I was told I had to wait for the doctors round which was going to be later that day. I was seen by them at 12.30 but was still waiting for a discharge letter more than 2 hours later I could say lots more
