Although I have met many kind, professional nurses in Whitchurch hospital, Cardiff, I have also met some thoughtless, unkind ones.
1. A nurse with feet up reading magazine who couldn't be bothered to take me outside for fresh air.
2. A nurse who left me all my first night with no sheet or blanket because 'there weren't any'. I asked her to ring another ward and she said they had all run out & carried on talking to other night staff. Several times during the night I went to ask (this was winter) and she brushed me off. In the early hours, she eventually agreed to look in the cupboard (opposite the office where she was chatting) & there were piles of them. I was not strong enough to raise this at the time and then it was too late.
3. My bag was taken off me on admission & the nurse told me she'd check through it and return it during the night. I waited all night and she watched television and left it for the day staff, who were too busy to do it for hours.
I am sure that the majority of Whitchurch staff are horrified by this.
