Anything else?
I have recently visited the hospital for day surgery. Unfortunately, I had not been informed until during my wait that despite arriving at the requested 7am that it was a day list that I was on and was going to be the last to go down to theatre. However, the staff were friendly, pleasant and very helpful during my stay, answering any questions with a smile. They have a tough job as some of the other patients were not so understanding and they had to spend time explaining the situation and apologising. The facilities are adequate in the waiting rooms, with comfortable chairs which was a relief! The only unfortunate consequence of being last on the list and after recovery time spent on the ward, this meant that my discharge paperwork had not been completed and I was unable to see a doctor prior to going home, however the nursing staff were on hand to answer questions and give advice. This was my first experience of a hospital op under GA and I was somewhat daunted by the prospect and I am please to say that any concerns were unfounded! It was worth the aggrevation and perseverance I had to get the op arranged as I cannot say that the member of staff that I dealt with twice at theatre scheduling was quite so happy and helpful in their job. My only recommendation would be to any women who get married to change your surname prior to embarking on any hospital treatment or appointments and not to follow advice given at the hospital that it will be no trouble to change it midway through as it causes quite a few headaches ensuring that you stay on the op list and a number of letters from the hospital and your GP!
