"Breast Cancer scare"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital / Gynaecological oncology

(as the patient),

I found a lump in my breast, and was referred to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. I was frightened, scared and apprehensive of what I could be having to deal with. I lost my dear Mum to breast cancer 7 years ago.

The referring GP was so sympathetic, as was my GP on my follow up appointment. I phoned the hospital three working days after my referral as I felt anxious about the date and was desperate not to be lost in the system. They advised me that the referral had been received and I would get an appointment through very shortly. The following day I received an appointment, which was 2 weeks to the day after I was referred. The wait from then to my appointment was awful, not knowing what was awaiting me.

The appointment day came and the whole process was superb from the booking in, initial consultation, mammogram, ultrasound and final consultation (with results) couldn't have been faulted. I was kept informed at all stages of what was happening and why, and the staff were so caring.

I was lucky that the lump was nothing to worry about!
