"I was in A&E following a head ..."

About: Pilgrim Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was in A&E following a head injury earlier this month. I was left sitting for 2 hours before a nurse came to clean my wound. By the time the A&E doctor came to look at it, the blood had congealed and it had to be cleaned again. The nurse was a bit heavy handed and the pain of having it cleaned caused me to pass out. This lead to me getting a bed and an xray which I felt I ought to have had sooner as this was over 4 hours since I had arrived.

However the A&E doc was great, got me stitched up and even went to get me a sandwich as I had not eaten since 6am that morning.

I was moved to the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) and the staff there were very nice. They seemed very rushed but still had time for everyone.

What could be improved

The parking costs!! When my wife went to pay, the charge was £10 as she had been with me all day. I thought this was astronomical.

Privacy on CDU (and in A&E to some extent) - although curtains were drawn we could hear everything being said to all the other patients.
